What is it, who can help me access it?

The Government has set aside £2bn go towards making homes more energy efficient. Taking part in the scheme could save you more than £200 annually on your bills and reduce your carbon footprint by cutting 700 kilograms of carbon a year from your home.

Typically this means a householder would pay £1.3K of a £3.9K bill for roof insulation while the Government would pay the rest of the bill costing in this case £2.6K however households on low incomes can receive vouchers covering 100% of the cost of the improvements up to a maximum £10,000 pounds.

This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to upgrade your roof and insulation taking advantage of the Government's contribution of £5K plus ongoing savings amounting to 100’s of pounds per year.

Roof insulation can only be upgraded by accessing the roof void internally or externally.

InternallyUpgrading internally would involve removing the ceilings, walls, plasterboard & plaster to enable the fitting of the insulation, this is a filthy job creating high volumes of dust and dirt around your home. External installation is highly recommended.

ExternallyTo upgrade the insulation externally, the roof would be removed, but all the ceilings and walls would stay intact, avoiding disturbance & dirt entering your home.

We want to give you the best option possible

The green energy grant is available for accessing the roof, fitting of insulation & refitting of roof cover which makes an excellent investment and will add considerable value to your property (in effect it pays for itself) This provides a perfect opportunity to upgrade and enjoy the peace of mind that comes with knowing that your roof will be fully guaranteed for 20 years.

Roof Care green grant scheme options:

1

Flat Roofing Insulation

Upgrading to EPDM (rubber) & adding insulation to a flat roof will help keep the heat in, making the room beneath more comfortable while helping to keep your bills down.

Benefits

  • Maintenance free rubber roof
  • Excellent investment, adding considerable value to your property (pays for itself)
  • Peace of mind for 50-60 years

Is rubber better than felt?

Felt only has a life span of 10-15 years and can leak without warning. Felt is also prone to weather damage and has many weak points including requiring a special coating to protect against the suns UV rays, and from an aesthetic point of view doesn’t look as good as rubber.

2

Pitched Open Loft Insulation

Warm air rises upwards in a property. If your roof is poorly insulated or not insulated at all, this could contribute to heating losses of as much as 25%, losing you money.

Benefits

  • Lower risk of condensation issues
  • Make room in the roof - or potentially turn it into another room
  • Rafter-level insulation creates a warm roof

Is it right for me?

If your home has a pitched roof then you will want the roof to be adequately insulated otherwise the room beneath will be difficult to keep warm and you will be spending a lot of money trying to heat it.

3

Loft Bedroom Insulation (Internal)

Adding internal insulation to the space around your loft room will make the room warmer and more comfortable, and could cut result in lower energy bills too.

Benefits

  • Can make a big difference to comfort levels
  • Can also cut down on heat loss from any rooms below the loft
  • External installation is highly recommended

Is it right for me?

If the loft space is not insulated then you will find it very difficult to heat. You will be losing heat to the outside world through all the walls and ceilings, and you could be losing heat from the rooms below as well. Insulating your loft room could make a real difference to your comfort and energy bills.

4

Loft Bedroom Insulation (External)

Upgrading the insulation externally the roof would be removed, all the ceilings and walls would stay intact thus avoiding disturbance & dirt entering your home.

Benefits

  • Less mess than the internal option
  • Not as disruptive to fit
  • Gives you the opportunity to upgrade your roof which is a fantastic investment
